What is WordPress Author?

WordPress Author is a role taken by a user to write, delete and modify content, upload files in order words, they have full control of their own reserved contribution area.

Websites with multiple authors usually assign the contributor role to writers or use a plugin to create a user role with customized capabilities so as to avoid issues of other authors deleting their contents
Many websites also provide authors with author pages to give biographical information about themselves. This is usually done through the built-in author archive pages which displays a list of all posts written by them.

You can also give the Authors more permissions than they have with default WordPress.

The Author box plugin is an excellent way to view and change the permissions for each user role.

This next image shows the permissions available to Authors for Posts and Pages. Notice that Authors are not allowed to touch anyone else’s content. They do not have the “Edit others” or “Delete others” permissions.
